Coral Reef Restoration Project
At Nakalay Beach Phuket
Coral reefs are a blessing, beautiful underwater gardens that protect the shorelines and are the home to over 25% of marine life. Thailand represents one of the lucky world destinations to be blessed with amazing corals. Yet, with today’s modernization and growing tourism, these beautiful gifts of nature are at threat. Inadvertently damaged by human activity, Thailand’s coral reefs are at “crisis level”, not half of what they used to be.
As a local hotel business with a goal of a non-destructive development of Phuket, Thavorn Hotels & Resorts sees the importance of protecting these gifts of nature for future generations. Together with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and Prince of Songkla University, Thavorn Hotels & Resorts is launching a Coral Reef Restoration Project at Nakalay Beach. The project aims at long-term restoration of corals at Nakalay bay through underwater restoration works, and education and cooperation with the public.
